Remember when a major label would put in the effort to release rare tracks? Remember compilations? Well, this was both of those things: a unique look into some of what was coming from Geffen in the early to mid-'90s. The comp actually went by different names in different countries, mainly because that's what the label did, too. It was DGC in the U.S. and Canada and Geffen basically everywhere else at that stage. The Nirvana track on here was "Pay to Play", a demo of "Stay Away", off of Nevermind. It also later appeared on the With the Lights Out box set. The demo version was fun. 14-track versions of this compilation came out in the U.S. and Canada (The DGC Rarities Vol. 1 version), a different 14-track version came out in Japan, and the other Geffen Rarities Vol. 1 editions released around the world had 12 tracks. They switched out several tracks on each of these three versions...it's all a little annoying. Anyway, there was only one vinyl version, which came out in the UK. It's relatively common, but not the cheapest thing to obtain. However, the price seems to vary a lot among platforms, so shop around a little if you are looking for one.
