The Twilight Singers

Dynamite Steps

Sub Pop SP844 LP / SPCD 844 CD, released 2011 (U.S.)

The long-awaited Dynamite Steps...the first Twilight Singers album in five years when it was released. In 2011, it was weird to see new Dulli releases on Sub Pop. Who knew that there would be multiple new Afghan Whigs Sub Pop albums after this?

The vinyl version is a double LP for no apparent reason...it's a 43 minute album. As the story goes, it was only intended to be available on white vinyl. Somewhere along the way, when the album was being re-pressed, word from Sub Pop is that someone made a mistake and cranked out a black vinyl batch. These were much harder to come by than the white vinyl versions for a while. They may have done a subsequent, intentional black batch, though, as they became a lot easier to find over time. Both versions are inexpensive and easy to find, though there have been a couple of higher-priced white vinyl sales in recent months, which may be your warning sign, if you've been putting off filling out the collection.

There was actually a cool, exclusive, two-track CD that Sub Pop gave away along with pre-orders of Dynamite Steps. Those two tracks were exclusive to the CD.
