SP90 Smashing Pumpkins

Tristessa b/w La Dolly Vita

Sub Pop SP90, released December 1990

Sub Pop SP10/137 - 12" (Germany)

The only Sub Pop release by Smashing Pumpkins.  All had foldover paper sleeves with Singles Club forms attached. There were a lot of these pressed - I have read 4500 on  pink marble vinyl and 3000 on black vinyl.  Or so I had been led to believe.  Sub Pop says there were 2500 pink ones.  I feel like this can't possibly be correct because there are so many on the market.  The black ones are definitely more scarce, and the market actually reflects this.  Oh yeah, and then there's the grey one.  Estimates vary, but there are probably between 100 and 200 of these in existence.  It's expensive.  In 2007, one of these sold for about $300.  In early 2008, it went up to the $500-600 range, but it has come back down to $350 territory.  Rumors circulated saying that the grey ones were the result of the plates not being cleaned between the pink and black pressings.  Nope.  There is no pink in those grey copies.  They just simply pressed some grey ones.  If this were from overlap, then you'd end up with far fewer than 200, and they would look purple, like the Rollins Band example above (see SP 72).  The test pressing for this record is on red vinyl, and when it sells, it is very, very expensive.
