Volcom - Yo Gabba Gabba!! - I Can't Believe It's Really Happening
Contains the Rocket from the Crypt track "He's a Chef"
Volcom YGG1 7", released 2012 (U.S.)
I will readily admit...I thought this was a joke at first. Conditioned to not believe anything when it came to the legend of Rocket from the Crypt, when word broke of the band's brief reunion for a performance on the kids' show "Yo Gabba Gabba!!"...well, I didn't entirely buy it. And guess what, it turned out to be for real. They even performed a new song on the show (which they did not write). It's...well, it's a Rocket from the Crypt kids' song. That's a sentence I never expected to type.
Volcom produced a pretty limited 7" to commemorate the event. They initially released it in three ways: first, you could enter for a random drawing. I completely missed that one. What can I say - I wasn't paying attention. Second, they were theoretically giving away copies at Volcom stores if you purchased items from their "Yo Gabba Gabba!!" line. I don't know that this method went as planned. I don't know of anyone who was able to get one this way. Third, they were giving them away to people who bought a "Yo Gabba Gabba!!" item from their website. Anecdotally, most of the people who won the drawing received green copies and most of the people who ordered stuff online got red copies. There were some problems with those orders, but a fantastically helpful Volcom rep worked everything out.
THEN...early 2013 rolled around, and Volcom still had some of them on hand. They offered them up to new subscribers to the Volcom record club. I originally thought there were 550 numbered copies out there, split between red and green copies. It turns out there were 540 green and 550 red. Both copies are about equally valuable. The price went up for a while, but is now reasonable for both.
