NY Beat: Hit and Run

Moon Records Toast 9/Toast 10 LP/Cassette, released 1986 (U.S.)

Assigned "MR010" number in later Moon catalogues

Ska-Ville USA

Ska' Records SKAR-001 LP (UK)

The NY Beat compilation was one of the most important ska compilations of the whole third wave. This one really got things going. There were quite a few pressed (reportedly 10,000), so it is generally not that expensive a record to find. So go get one. Black vinyl.

The original release had white Toast labels. This one also came in a sleeve that had this random extra orange strip at the top of the sleeve. There was another version that came with red Moon Records labels. On that one, the orange strip was missing from the sleeve. Both listed the Toast 9/Toast 10 catalogue numbers.

A version of this comp came out in the UK as well - that one was on SKA' Records. The title and artwork were completely different - it was called "Ska-ville USA" and came in the black sleeve above. Same tracks, though.
