A Record Collector's Guide

Preposterously Rare Hepcat Alert

Posted on September 24, 2011

So, I had always thought that the Hepcat Nigel 7" existed solely on black vinyl. It is rare enough in that format. However, after I posted my Hepcat discography, someone clued me in to another version on clear vinyl. That message board discussion also led to the revelation that there were only 25 copies made on clear vinyl, and most of those were given to the band. I cannot confirm that part, but I can vouch for the fact that the clear vinyl version is excessively scarce. That said, the stars seem to have aligned, and I was able to get myself a copy. This one is either a record collector's dream and nightmare. Thanks to Lawless for the heads up. The value I have placed on it is entirely speculative, but I am ballparking it at $80-100.

Moon Records/Moon Ska

Posted on July 6, 2011

Alright, folks. This is a big one. I have added full discographies for Moon Records/Moon Ska Records. Really. There are many, many pages of skatastic fun for you here. There is an Album Index and a Single Index. I am proud of this one - it took a great deal of work, and I could never have done it without the trail blazed by Jeremy Patton of Megalith Records. So, here you go. Collect away.

Hepcat

Posted on April 23, 2011

Now we're cookin'...just like that, Hepcat's part of the discography site is now live! That was much easier. I need to do a few more like this...four albums, four singles, five comps. Good stuff. Enjoy. The "diskagraphies" are underway...

The Slackers

Posted on April 20, 2011

Well, that took a while. The Slackers pages are now live on the discog site. I think I should have chosen some shorter discogs for my first couple of ska-related bands. Instead, I went with Fishbone and the Slackers. Time to do some shorter ones before I get into something like the Toasters, don'tcha think?

Fishbone

Posted on March 22, 2011

Fishbone is RED HOT...and is now on Pette Discographies. I have completed albums, single, and compliation sections for them...and it took far longer than it should have. I am happy to bring you a (mostly) complete Fishbone discography.

R.I.P. Rick Kulwicki

Posted on February 20, 2011

For those of you who have not yet heard, Rick Kulwicki, guitarist for the Fluid, passed away this week at age 49. He will be missed. I only got to meet him once, but he lived up to all of the wonderful things that his friends have been saying about him.

Overhaul Complete (Mostly)

Posted on February 6, 2011

Alright - here we go. I am basically done with all of the site updates I wanted to perform. Amongst our updates are fear, surprise, a ruthless efficiency...sorry...reflex...this is what is new:

- Every record on the site now has its own page. You can still view the full pages of entries if you care to read them all as a story, but it will now be much easier to get to one specific entry. All of my full discogs on here now have index pages, thereby enabling you to get to those individual entry pages with greater ease. I am building index pages for all of the partial discogs on here as well, but that's another big project that I will finish gradually (that would be the "mostly" done to which I alluded in the title above...).

- I added a full band list, which includes every band that has any kind of entry on this site. The partial discography links are not live yet...again, I'm doing that gradually. I did not want to hold up the rollout of the rest of the site for that.

- I have included a forum to help fuel your record collecting needs. There is a link in the menu above, but it can be found here: Pette Discographies Forum.

- There have lots of little behind-the-scenes upgrades that should help me expand the site better in the future. You don't care about those details, but I promise, they took a long time.

I hope the new site is enjoyable. Now, let's get back to the new content, shall we? Next up...Fishbone.

Lots of Updates Coming

Posted on January 2, 2011

I know it has been forever since the last update on here. That will all change in the very near future. I have been working on another large scale site design update for a while now. Nothing is live yet, but I am almost done. It will make the site much more user friendly. I have been reluctant to make any big content changes until I finished the redesign. Add in an international move, and 2010 was a slow website update year. I have a lot coming over the first couple of months of 2011, though. Stay tuned!

Unprecedented Sub Pop Auction

Posted on December 6, 2009

It is time. I am going to refocus my collection slightly, and spend some time on getting some higher-end items from my want list. To that end, I have decided to unload my complete Sub Pop Singles Club V1 set - all colors of all singles (except Love Buzz). There are certainly some records in the set that I want to keep in my collection. I have already replaced those items. This is a unique opportunity for a lucky collector somewhere. Tell your friends!

Big Sale

Posted on November 8, 2009

Well, I have decided to unload a bunch of Sub Pop test pressings. I had been amassing them for a giant trade a while back, but the other party disappeared, and I have not heard from him in over a year. I think it's time. I can't keep that much cash tied up in records I don't plan to have in my collection forever, so...there you go. A big batch is up over at our favorite auction site, so take a look at my current listings should you have some interest. It's not all test pressings, either. There are some nice rarities for sale as well.

Seaweed Updates

Posted on October 25, 2009

Thanks to Marcus Andrews over at The Endless Quest, I have added another version of the Seaweed Just a Smirk single (yellow vinyl), as well as a better picture of the green Spanaway LP.

Sicko Is Here!

Posted on September 13, 2009

This weekend brings us another new page: Sicko. I know it is a bit of a departure from many of the pages I have done, but not everything has to fit...right?

Seaweed Pages Added

Posted on September 7, 2009

I realize it has been a little while since my last update. I think the site overhaul must have taken more out of me than I'd previously thought. Well, I am back with some new pages. Seaweed has joined the fray. Separate albums, singles, and index pages are now live!

New Page! Sarge, the Reputation, and Elizabeth Elmore Have Arrived!

Posted on June 29, 2009

Now that the site is redone, it's time for some new content. I have added a page detailing Sarge, the Reputation, and Elizabeth Elmore. Plus, I have updated some more images:

Pette Discographies Overhaul

Posted on June 25, 2009

Welcome to the new Pette Discographies site, updated for the 21st century! I have rebuilt the whole site, essentially from the ground up. I have held off on a great deal of updates due to the grand overhaul, so there should be a lot of new entries coming soon. I still have some image touch-up work to do on some of the images, but that work is almost entirely done. If you see something that is not working correctly, please let me know. Stay tuned to this page for all sorts of new updates in the coming weeks.

Glitterhouse Invades Pette Discographies

Posted on May 24, 2009

A few more additions today. I decided to stop ignoring the Glitterhouse/Sub Pop Europe versions of Sub Pop albums and singles. I have not yet included any images that were not already in place, but I added catalogue numbers for just about every crossover Sub Pop item I have on here. Also added:

Flurry of Updates

Posted on May 23, 2009

I know it has been a while since my last update. I was focusing more on the site's overall design and less on the content. Of course, I haven't really gotten anywhere on the design, and have just ignored the content, so I decided it was time for some updates. Here are the newest additions and updates:

Driving Mudhoney Collectors Insane, One Find at a Time

Posted on February 20, 2009

Today's additions:

Ornamental Relief

Posted on February 17, 2009

Added a scan of the clear vinyl Ornament 7". Whew. That was a tough one to track down. Thanks to Mike F. for fueling the habit.

Whigging Out

Posted on February 11, 2009

Today, I added a second Sub Pop LP page (SP51 - SP100). I also cleaned up my Afghan Whigs pages a little. I added a different picture of the blue-green marble version of Up In It (this one is a more accurate depiction of the color), along with a blue marble version of Up In It, which I just discovered existed. I re-worked the Somethin' Hot 7" entry, and I received proof that the clear vinyl Ornament 7" existed. Finally, I added an interesting pink marble variation of the Sister Brother 7", which looks to be a cross between pink marble and purple marble.

"It's Like, How Much More Black Could It Be?"

Posted on February 2, 2009

I tried to clarify the solid black vs. translucent black situation with the early Sub Pop singles.

Today's Buzz

Posted on February 1, 2009

Today's additions:

Sub Pop LP Update

Posted on December 26, 2008

I beefed up the Sub Pop LP page a little, adding a few images and some clarifications. I am still missing a few images. The next LP page (up to SP100) is in progress, but I am missing a lot more images for that one. If anyone can help, email me.

Cleaning Up Singles Club V2

Some big new updates...

LP Image Improvements

Posted on September 17, 2008

Lots of updates over the past few days. I replaced basically all of the LP images. The new ones are much clearer pictures. Let's see...what else...added black vinyl versions of Rocket from the Crypt's first two albums, the UK Afghan Whigs Gentlemen LP...and I unveiled a new page for the band Jale, which may only be of interest to me.

The Unconditional Love of Rocket from the Crypt

Posted on August 10, 2008

I finally went and did it...ladies and gentlemen, for your viewing and obsessing pleasure, a vinyl discography to showcase the unconditional love of +Rocket from the Crypt. I have added pages for both singles and albums.

Settling In

Posted on August 4, 2008

I have all of my vinyl back with me, and am starting to get settled in my new place. There will be several updates coming in the near future, as soon as I have my scanner back. As for today, I added some clarity to the SP113 Dwarves entry. Many have told me there is a black vinyl version of that one, but I am fairly certain that all of those have been the Sub Pop Europe versions. I have also updated the want list to incorporate recent acquisitions.

Black Buzz Factory

Posted on June 26, 2008

Added the black Screaming Trees Buzz Factory LP and a better picture of SP109 Urge Overkill. It is very difficult to capture the actual color of that one, especially with a scanner.

Posted on June 23, 2008

Some new images, some that I'd forgotten to add.

Email Is Back

The email address on here is now functional again. There were some problems with it when I changed web hosts, but I have set it up correctly now. I apologize to anyone who tried to get in touch with me when it wasn't working.

Peoplehost Gets the FINGER.

Posted on April 29, 2008

Moved the site to a new web host!  Hooray! Apparently, peoplehost has no customer service. I tried for months to give them MORE money to increase my storage space, yet they could not handle this very simple operation.
