A Record Collector's Guide

Love Battery - Singles

Love Battery released very few 7"s over their main period of activity, 1989-1999. There were three on vinyl and a handful of promo cds.

Between the Eyes b/w Easter

Sub Pop SP45 7", released 1989 (U.S.)

Love Battery's first record, a two song 7" on Sub Pop. The two songs on this single were both released on the Between the Eyes EP. The first 500 copies were on red vinyl, and the next 2,500 were on black. One interesting note on this one: there is a rejected test pressing of this record with a different mix of the songs on it. The matrix code of this test pressing reads as follows: Side A - "Dial M for Muzak SP-45-A Kdisc ch L-33610" / Side B - "SP-45-B Kdisc ch L-33610-X". The matrix code of the final release is: Side A - "Dial M for Muzak SP-45-A Re-1 Kdisc ch L-33610" / Side B - "SP-45-B Kdisc ch L-33610-X". The "Re-1" in the final version is the indicator of the second test pressing. The rejected and final test pressings look the same and are really only distinguishable by the matrix codes.

One-track promo CD released to promote Straight Freak Ticket. Foldover cardboard CD case w/ plastic tray. I don't usually bother with one-track promo CDs without corresponding vinyl, so I don't know precisely why I made this entry, but I did, so I will maintain it.

Snipe Hunt b/w Punks Want Rights

Let Down LD103 7", released 1998

Years later, in 1998, after the attempt at major label life fell through, Love Battery released the Snipe Hunt 7" on Let Down Records. It was incredibly difficult to come by at the time of release, but has become easier to find in recent years. I had thought that all copies were on black vinyl, and then...I came across one on blue vinyl in 2008. I had no idea it existed before that moment, and it is very, very rare. It was the last single the band released...for now (I have no information here, just baseless optimism).
