The Slackers - Singles

Schooling the Youth 12"

Germany 12" Select Cuts SC6020, released 2002

This EP was released in Germany as a sampler for the Slackers & Friends album. It was really hard to find for years, but has become super common. There's also a promo version floating around.

Asbestos/Underground Communique ASB/UCR077 LP, released 2013 (U.S.)

Shattered World Music SW-003 LP (U.S.)

The Slackers are not shy about writing politically-charged songs, and this EP was probably the least subtle example of that. Well, so far. Good Stuff. It was only available on CD for many years, but in 2013, Asbestos Records and Underground Communique Records combined to release it on vinyl for the first time, via Kickstarter, as the 2nd round of The 3rd Wave Ska Preservation Society Vinyl Reissue Project. It was released with a bunch of bonus tracks, making it more of a proper album. It came on red and black vinyl. Both are fairly hard to get.

I got in on the fun, and, as with the Pietasters' Oolooloo record, there was a Shattered World Edition for this one as well. There were 50 copies, all on black vinyl, and they were stamped and numbered on a Shattered World label affixed to the backs of the sleeves.

You Must Be Good b/w You Must Be Good Dub

Ska in the World SIWI 046 7", released 2005 (Japan)

This is what I get...both for being out of the game for a number of years, and for allowing too much time to pass between Japan visits. Things like "Ska in the World" happen. This Japanese label began to release a whole host of ska albums and singles, some original, some that had been previously released elsewhere. Part of this massive wave of releases has been a steady stream of very limited 7"s (limited to 300 copies...at least for the early ones). This was the first single that started making collecting Slackers vinyl difficult. The value has not appreciated all that much, despite its scarcity. There was one notably high-priced exception sold on Discogs - I'm still not sure if that was a legit sale. Black vinyl.

Minha Menina b/w No More Cryin' (ska version)

Music With Soul! MWS-001 7", released 2007 (Brazil)

Minha Menina was a Brazil-only release, limited to 550 numbered copies on black vinyl. It is actually not that difficult to find, but it can be a little costly (mainly due to the postage paid to get it to anywhere other than Brazil).

Hanukkah

Asbestos ASB043 7", released 2009 (U.S.)

Yep...that happened. The Slackers do Dreidel (and a dub mix of the same on the b-side). Released on solid blue vinyl (500 copies), baby blue vinyl with white splatter (300 copies), and white vinyl with blue splatter (200 copies). Still relatively easy to find, considering the rarity.

New Year's Day

Urban Pirate UPR-008 7", released 2010 (U.S.)

The Slackers cover U2. It works. Released in late 2010 (hey, just in time for New Year's Day...). The clear vinyl was pretty limited (I read 200 copies on one site, but that seems low). Interpunk sold all of those a while back. Fairly rare now, but not too pricy.
